Is there a way to listen for notification and inform the app when you are in the app so that the app can take other actions such as query a remote server?

Hello,

Actually, it is the default behaviour: if your application is opened when the push is received, the notification gets automatically opened, which allows you to deliver any kind of custom data.

Aside from that, please note that you can modify our SDK by adding some code into the processing the push received.
